ENROLLMENT INTO VANGUARD
Enrollment starts with your local catchment school (Vanguard only enrolls new Grade 8-11 students). Vanguard is a Type 3 Alternative School, that focuses on supporting students beyond the scope of traditional comprehensive secondary schools. In saying that, it is often a difficult and sometimes traumatic experience to change schools. This difficult decision must be made carefully with a complete understanding of how transitioning between schools can best be done. We require all students (and their families) to have their local school’s School Based Team, counsellors and administrative teams to be part of the conversation and transition planning. We in Langley School District take ownership of all our youth, and prior to “officially” enrolling and committing to becoming a part of our Vanguard community, we require a comprehensive conversation around the “why”.
As part of Vanguard’s local school support, transition planning and potential intake, all students (and their family) and their school support team are required to complete the following surveys prior to meeting with the Vanguard Intake Team.
To begin the process, students must complete our survey by clicking STUDENT AND FAMILY ENROLL NOW LINK and a member of their school support team (usually the current School Based Team representative, school administrator or counsellor) must complete our SCHOOL BASED TEAM ENROLLMENT LINK. Both surveys are critical for ensuring a safe and effective transitional experience into our school.
Upon completion of our survey, Mindy (our Restorative Services Team Leader) will contact the student and his/her family to arrange an interview and determine the next steps.
PLEASE NOTE: ENROLLMENT INTO VANGUARD SECONDARY IS DONE QUATERLY (September, November, February and April).
Any questions, please contact the school at 604-856-9192 during regular school hours – 8:30am to 4:00pm.
